Step by step: How to adjust an X12 and X14 rail binding

Step 1: Set the binding to the correct shoe size

We start by setting the binding to match the correct ski boot size. The size of your ski boot is located at the heel and is expressed in millimeters.

Open the lid in the middle of the binding. Now, move the toe and heel piece so that the number at the red indicators match your ski boot size. After that, close the black lid and place the ski boot in the binding.

Step 2: Correct forward pressure

In the next step, we will adjust the correct forward pressure so that the binding only releases when necessary. At the back of the binding, there is a screw to adjust the forward pressure. Moreover, you can determine if it is set correctly by the position of the screw. If the screw protrudes, there is too little forward pressure. If the screw is more inward, there is too much forward pressure. Both situations can create an unsafe condition, as your binding may release too quickly or not at all. The screw should be flush with the binding. If not, use a screwdriver to adjust it. If the screw protrudes, turn it clockwise. If the screw is too far into the binding, turn it counterclockwise.

Next, remove the ski boot from the binding and place it back in. Test with your finger if the screw is now flush with the binding. If the answer is yes, you have achieved perfect forward pressure.

Step 3: DIN settings

In the final step, you will adjust the DIN settings. The DIN is a number indicating how much force a boot needs to release from the binding. Determining your DIN settings depends on your skiing experience, weight, height, age, and sole length.

The X12 and X14 bindings have a DIN indicator on the heel and toe pieces that must both match your personal DIN. Adjust the indicators using a screwdriver. The screw to adjust the DIN on the heel piece is located on the back of the binding, and for the toe piece, it is on the front of the binding.

Now, your ski binding is properly adjusted, and you're ready to hit the slopes! One last piece of advice: check the adjustment of your bindings every ski season. Properly adjusted bindings are essential for safe and enjoyable skiing.
