Step by step: How to adjust a Tyrolia rail binding
Step 1: Adjusting the binding to the correct boot size
We start by adjusting the binding to match the correct ski boot size. The size of your ski boot can be found at the heel and is expressed in millimeters.
At the toe piece, you'll find a small lever on the side of the binding. Open the lever and slide the toe piece until the size indicator matches your boot size. On the heel piece, you'll find a metal lever that you adjust similarly. If the toe and heel pieces are set to your boot size, place the boot in the binding.
Step 2: Correct forward pressure
With the boot in the binding, we'll check forward pressure to ensure the binding releases only when necessary.
On the metal lever of the heel piece, there are indicator lines. If you see some of these lines, the pressure is correct. If you see none of the lines, the binding is too tight and has too much pressure. If you see all the lines, the binding is too loose, and you need to adjust it for a slightly smaller size. To do this, remove the boot from the binding, move the heel piece a small distance, place the boot back in the binding, and check again.
Step 3: DIN settings
In the final step, adjust the DIN settings. DIN is a number indicating how much force a boot needs to release from the binding. Determining your required DIN depends on your skiing experience, weight, height, age, and sole length.
The Tyrolia rail binding has a DIN indicator on the heel and toe pieces, both of which should match your personal DIN. Adjust the indicators using a screwdriver. The screw to adjust the DIN on the heel piece is located at the back of the binding, and the one for the toe piece is at the front of the binding.
Now, your ski binding is properly adjusted, and you're ready to hit the slopes! One last piece of advice: check the adjustment of your bindings every ski season. Properly adjusted bindings are essential for safe and enjoyable skiing.
