Climbing skins

Looking for skins for your touring skis? We have a large selection of skins from brands like Contour, Pomoca, G3 and Kohla. Glued skins, self-adhesive skins, nylon, mohair, mixed, we have the skins you need.

What to consider when buying skins for ski touring?

In our range you'll find different types of climbing skins, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Before you buy skins it's therefore important to consider which type of skins you want:

  • Glue-backed or self-adhesive skins
  • Which material: nylon, mohair or mixed

Glue-backed or self-adhesive skins?

Glue-backed skins provide the best adhesion in cold conditions and are very durable. They do, however, require careful maintenance. Self-adhesive skins are user-friendly and easy to clean. For long-term storage, keep them with a protective backing to preserve the adhesive.

Nylon, mohair or mixed

The material of the skins fibres affects glide, grip, wear resistance and durability.

  • Nylon: high grip, abrasion-resistant, water-resistant and durable
  • Mohair: good glide and strong grip on drier snow
  • Mixed: a combination of nylon and mohair for durable skins, offering strong grip and good glide

Pre-cut skins or cutting your own

When buying skins, make sure they fit your touring skis. Not all skins are suitable for every ski. There are ready-made ‘pre-cut’ skins that match a specific model and ski length. And there are skins that you need to cut to size:

  • Custom: skins that you need to trim to size in both length and width.
  • Trim-to-fit: skins sold in a length size that still need trimming to width.

If you buy trim-to-fit skins together with touring skis and bindings at Snowcountry, we'll trim the skins to size as an extra service. If you'd rather do it yourself, please let us know directly after placing your order.
