How do you choose the right goggle?

The range of goggles, ski and snowboard goggles, is enormous nowadays, which can make it difficult to find the right ski or snowboard goggle. We’re happy to help you make the right choice.

Size ski- and snowboard goggles

Ski- and snowboard goggles often come in 3 sizes:

  • S (small)
  • M (medium)
  • L (large)

The right goggle size often corresponds with the size of your helmet. So look at the helmet size you have, then you’ll know which goggle size to look for. If your helmet is XS or S, choose an S goggle.

Check our SnowHow on how to pick the right goggle.

Weather conditions and VLT

In your search for a snow goggle you may already have come across the letters VLT. This stands for ‘Visible Light Transmission’. The higher the VLT percentage, the more light the lens lets through, and vice versa. In very sunny weather you’ll want a goggle with a low VLT and on dark days you’ll want a higher one.

Sunny days Mixed weather Dark days
<20% Between 20% - 50% > 50%

By choosing an all‑round ski or snowboard goggle you’ll be prepared for many types of weather conditions. If you always want the most optimal viewing experience you can look at a goggle with interchangeable lenses or photochromic lenses.

Lens shape: cylindrical, spherical or toric

A cylindrical lens gives a more ‘classic look’ and appears slimmer. Spherical lenses, on the other hand, are more curved but offer a larger field of view with less distortion. This is because the curvature matches the curvature of your eye. Toric lenses are a combination of the two.

OTG goggles

Do you wear glasses and would you like to wear a goggle over them? Then look for goggles with OTG in the name. OTG stands for ‘Over The Glasses’. This is the solution for glasses‑wearing winter sports enthusiasts who prefer a goggle. Another alternative is a visor helmet. These are helmets fitted with a visor, which usually provide enough room for glasses.

Lens color

Buying a new goggle online? Bear in mind that the lens of the goggle sometimes does not SEEM to have the colour you expected! The apparent colour of the lens depends on the background colour. You’ll only see the chosen color when you use it outside in the snow. If in doubt whether you’ve received the right colour, you can easily check the colour on the packaging and compare it with the lens on our webshop.
