Merino wool vs. synthetic materials

Merino wool is common in high-end, performance sportswear and commands a premium over synthetic fabrics. Compared to synthetic fabrics with a simple fiber structure, Merino wool fibers are soft and very thin. It has higher breathability and moisture regulating rates. In contrast to polyester, Merino wool feels warm and comfortable, and it retains warmth even when wet. It is excellent at regulating body temperature, especially when worn against the skin. And in contrast to other materials, it has excellent antibacterial properties and it’s odor neutralizing. You can simply leave your product to air, and you’ll be able to wear it again the next day.

Merino wool vs. wool in general

Several properties contribute to Merino's popularity for exercise clothing. At first, Merino is one of the softest types of wool available with an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio. The fine wool fibers are so thin that they are even below the human itching threshold. Second, Merino wool fibers provide warmth, without overheating the wearer. It will keep you warm in winter and cool in summer because of the high thermo-regulating qualities. The more grams of Merino per m², the better for cold weather performance.
