Avalanche airbag zip-ons

Airbag zip-ons offer flexibility and convenience. They let you easily switch between different backpack volumes without a second avalanche airbag system. Airbag zip-ons are not standalone packs and should always be combined with an avalanche airbag with a compatible zip-on system.

What is an airbag zip-on?

An airbag zip-on easily zips onto a compatible avalanche backpack. These avalanche backpacks consist of a base unit that houses the avalanche airbag system and a zip-on pack. The zip-on section unzips easily and can be replaced with another compatible airbag zip-on.

Why choose a zip-on system

The advantage of an avalanche airbag with a zip-on system is that you can easily change the volume. This lets you switch between a larger and a smaller avalanche backpack depending on what you plan to do that day.

How do you choose the right volume?

First, it's useful to check the size of the airbag zip-on that comes with your avalanche backpack. Then decide which size zip-on pack you'd like to have as an extra. Helpful guidelines:

  • 15–20 litres for freeriding and day trips
  • 25–30 litres for day trips with extra equipment
  • more than 35 litres for multi-day trips or when you really need more gear

Are all zip-ons interchangeable?

No, zip-ons are brand- and model-specific. Always check the product description for compatibility.
