What's in an avalanche kit?

An avalanche kit is essential when going into the backcountry. Only then are you able to dig someone out from under the snow after an avalanche or to be rescued yourself. Essential gear in an avalanche kit:

  • Avalanche beacon
  • Avalanche shovel
  • Avalanche probe

If you head off-piste it's important that everyone you’re with carries a transceiver, shovel and probe and knows how to use them. As an addition, it's wise to add an avalanche airbag to your gear.

Do I need an avalanche airbag?

An avalanche airbag increases your chances of surviving an avalanche. The large bag increases the likelihood that you'll end up on top of the avalanche debris. The avalanche airbag is an important complement to the three avalanche essentials: avalanche beacon, avalanche shovel and avalanche probe.

We have a large collection of avalanche airbags from top brands like Mammut, Pieps, Ortovox and Arva. Lightweight, electric, mechanical, with us you'll always find an avalanche airbag that suits you. See our "buyer’s guide: how to pick the right avalanche airbag?" to read more about the different systems and their pros and cons.
