Find a sleeping mat for your outdoor adventure here. Whether you're looking for a lightweight sleeping mat or a self-inflating mat for convenience. At Snowcountry you'll find the perfect sleeping mat for every trip and condition.
The best sleeping mat or sleeping pad depends on what you’re going to do and your personal preferences. At Snowcountry you'll find:
The lightweight sleeping mats are designed with a focus on weight saving. Perfect for ultra-hikers and adventurers who want to cover many kilometres at speed each day. However, the weight saving generally leads to less comfort and a limited insulation value.
Do you move to a new location every day, but speed isn’t the priority? Trekking sleeping mats pack down well, have a moderate weight and offer a bit more comfort. There are also trekking sleeping mats with a high insulation value, which is perfect if you’re heading out in cold conditions.
If you’re staying in one place for a longer period and weight is less important. Camping sleeping mats are thicker, heavier mats that offer a lot of sleeping comfort.
The R-value indicates the level of insulation of the sleeping mat. The higher the R-value, the more insulation the mat provides. Especially in cold winter conditions you want a mat that insulates well. Below you will find guidelines on which insulation value suits which conditions:
| R-value | Temperature | |
|---|---|---|
| 0.0 - 2.5 | Summer | For mild temperatures. |
| 2.5 - 4.0 | 3-season | For temperatures from mild summer conditions to light night frost in spring, summer or autumn. |
| 4.0 - 6.0 | 4-season | For when you want to camp in all seasons, including winter conditions. |
| 6.0+ | Extreme cold | For extremely cold conditions such as winter camping in high mountains or expeditions in very cold regions like the polar areas. |
If you want convenience and comfort, a self-inflating sleeping mat is a good choice. Open the valve and the mat fills itself with air. You can add a little extra air easily through the valve if needed. Self-inflating sleeping mats are, however, heavier and have a larger packed volume than a mat you need to inflate manually.
When you buy a sleeping mat it’s important to take the size of your inner tent into account. These are the maximum dimensions of your sleeping mat(s).
Then consider the position you sleep in and your build. A side-sleeper in their sleeping position is roughly 10 centimetres shorter than someone sleeping on their back. This is useful to know when deciding what length of sleeping mat you need.
There are also sleeping mats in wider widths for people with a bigger posture or if you move around a lot in your sleep.
