In short

The Salomon S/LAB Shift² 13 MN is the versatile middle option in the Shift² range. It combines pin-assisted climbing with the solid, alpine-style feel that makes the Shift attractive on the descent. This is the model for freeriders who use the same setup for lift-served skiing, sidecountry and proper touring days. Its 6–13 DIN range gives stronger or more aggressive skiers more room than the 10. Compared with the Shift² 16, it keeps a greater focus on touring versatility. That makes the 13 the natural 50/50 choice within the family.

In detail

Toe Technology:

  • Micro AFD with Power Block
The micro-adjustable, height-adjustable AFD uses a single-block aluminium Power Block to support the boot interface. The construction provides 30% more lateral stiffness than the previous generation, resulting in more direct power transmission through the toe.
  • Hybrid Toe
The toe performs a different function during the ascent and descent. Tech pins are used for touring, while the alpine-style toe interface takes over for skiing down. Boots therefore need tech inserts for the ascent. In downhill mode, the binding accepts compatible Alpine DIN, GripWalk and ISO 9523 touring soles.
  • Large toe wings
Large toe wings wrap around the front of the boot and create a broad contact area. This improves support around the toe and helps transfer skier input more directly to the ski.
  • Toe elasticity
The toe wings can move elastically when the binding is exposed to larger impacts. This movement helps absorb shocks while maintaining boot retention within the binding's release system.
  • Sliding Toe Pedal
The spring-mounted toe pedal can move laterally and then return to its centred position. This movement supports the binding's lateral release function with compatible normed ski boots.
  • Low Profile Chassis
The low stand height keeps the boot relatively close to the ski. This provides more direct terrain feedback and efficient power transmission.

Heel and Touring Technology:

  • Hybrid Heel
An aluminium lever is combined with carbon-reinforced polyamide to create a rigid heel construction. The design is focused on direct power transmission during the descent.
  • Climbing Aid (2 settings)
Two climbing-aid positions provide different heel heights for changing gradients. They can be operated with a ski pole, making it easy to adjust the position while touring.
  • 30 mm Adjustment Range
The heel unit can be moved along its adjustment track, providing a total range of 30 mm. This allows the binding to accommodate different boot sole lengths within that range without requiring a complete remount.
  • Crampon compatibility
The binding has an interface for dedicated ski crampons, providing additional traction on firm or icy climbs. Crampons are separate accessories unless explicitly stated otherwise.
