Photochromic means that the lens adapts to external light conditions. Is it sunny? Then the lens darkens. Is it cloudy? Then the lens becomes lighter. This ensures good visibility in every circumstance, and you only need one lens.

VLT (Visible Light Transmission) is a measurement that specifies the percentage of light coming through the lens and reaching your eyes. A totally clear lens for dark conditions typically have around 60-80% VLT and a very dark colored lens with mirror for sunny conditions may have down to 25% VLT.
