The Thermarest Vesper 45F/7C was designed to deliver the essential warmth needed for mild-weathered pursuits. To keep it light, powerful 900 fill Nikwax Hydrophobic Down certified by the Responsible Down Standard was used. Designed with high-quality materials and Therm-a-Rest performance features like SynergyLink™ connectors, a snap neck closure, perimeter side baffles and an insulated footbox provide warmth and comfort in the backcountry. When compared to sleeping bags, the Vesper quilts save weight and pack smaller by utilizing the warmth of your insulated pad.

Quilt
A quilt ensures a good night's sleep even on those adventures where every gram counts. A quilt is lighter and more compact than a sleeping bag because of its open back and the absence of a zipper and hood. You attach the quilt to your sleeping mat, so that cold air flows at the opening are prevented as much as possible, while your sleeping pad protects you from the cold from the ground. In cold conditions, the quilt can be used as an extra layer over your sleeping bag.


Down
Down insulation has an excellent insulation-to-weight ratio. It is very compressible, so a bulky, warm sleeping bag, can still be reduced to a small, manageable package. Also, the weight of a down-filled sleeping bag is much lower than that of a synthetic-filled sleeping bag with a similar temperature range. The temperature range of down is greater than synthetic materials such as polyester. This means that a warm sleeping bag can be used comfortably even at higher temperatures. Finally, down has a much longer lifespan.
