The Spark R&D Surge ST has undergone some changes. The Surge baseplate, straps and highbacks are more robust and powerful then the Arc. This makes this splitboardbinding perfect for the big days and big lines. The design is simple and durable which is nice when circumstances get difficult. ST stands for 'smooth touring' where friction and wear are eliminated. The whammy bar (heel riser) is connected to the binding and ensures that the crampons are always fully engaged. The addition of the skipole adjustable heel riser makes this one of the most practical bindings in the field. This binding is for experienced riders, heavy riders or mountain town legends.
PERFORMANCE
The performance is mainly in the milled CNC baseplate, which is slightly heavier and stronger than that of the Arc and can therefore be driven more aggressively. The stiffer Asym Rip N' Flip Highback is the ideal option for the splitboarder looking for maximum transmission and a direct feel. The bindings are equipped with Smooth Touring (ST) touring brackets, these brackets are made of a mix of aluminum and thermoplastics, which reduces friction and thus increases the lifespan.
COMFORT
The Arc and the Surge are both equipped with the Pillow Line Straps. These straps are 3D-shaped from a single piece of plastic. This gives them a good lifespan and makes them more malleable, so that they fit optimally on your boot. The ST Whammy Bar heel riser is built into the baseplate and ensures that the crampons, regardless of the heel riser, fully engage. The Whammy Bar has an ST overmold. During the overmold process, plastic is poured over the metal parts to make it stronger and more durable. Spark R&D uses time-tested Burton Buckles in all of their closures.
TOURING
The Spark R&D Surge ST uses the well-known Tesla T1 system. This system works with a heel riser in the baseplate and the Snap Ramp click system for converting interface. This makes it easy to mount the binding on Voile and Spark pucks.
Snap To Tour
T1 bindings slide sideways into the offset touring brackets and are locked into place with the snap ramp.
Snap To Ride
T1 bindings also slide across pucks utilizing the snap ramp to lock into place for a tight ride down.
