How to choose the right ski length

First of all there is no golden rule to determine the correct ski length. It depends on your skiing abilities, weigth, length and type of ski. But as a rule of thumb we provide the table below which is a good starting point to find your correct length
Example: If you start getting in to freeriding, take a ski which is approximately 5 cm shorter then your own length.

Quick overview

The Atomic Backland 117 delivers ultimate freeride touring performance in a wide and lightweight package. At 117mm underfoot this is Atomic’s widest freeride touring ski, but still super light. The rockered shape and revolutionary HRZN Tech in the tip deliver more surface area for maximum flotation in deep pow. The Backland 177 is capable of charging through crud and chop with total confidence and allows for smooth and stable handling on harder snow.

Details

Rocker Camber Small Rise

Skis with a rocker in the tip, camber in the middle and a small rise in the tail are very versatile. The ski is easy to turn, and the camber under the foot gives the ski grip on harder snow. The tail is slightly raised, but it is not a like full rocker. This makes for a balanced combination of easy turning and carving, without compromising on stability.

Ultralight Woodcore
A woodcore combining poplar and caruba wood creates a lively and light ski.

Carbon Backbone
A carbon insert added to the woodcore provides added stability and maneuverability without added weight.

HRZN
With HRZN Tech, Atomic takes the ABS sidewall and allows it to continue into the Tip and Tail. The resulting rounded edges provide 10% more surface area. This gives the ski more float and better control in deep snow.

Directional Shape
The tip in this ski is softer than the tail. This makes it easy to turn, while the stiffer tail provides stability and control when steering the turn.

Cap construction

A ski with Cap construction has a topsheet that extends over the edge of the ski to the steel edge. Skis with Cap construction are generally lightweight, more economical and offer good damage protection of the topsheet.
